Altimeter’s Research Themes And Upcoming Research Calendar

Altimeter-research-themes2

As an analyst and research firm focused on disruptive technologies, our clients and others frequently ask us what we are paying attention to and what we are researching. There are a multitude of areas we would like to be paying attention to and probably just as many that we would like to research, but we can’t. So instead, we are focusing on just a few key disruptive themes that have the potential to significantly impact organizations and consumers from tomorrow through three years from now - … [Read more...]

Jerry Yang’s departure signals a New Day for Yahoo!, the passing of an era for Tech

My first reaction to the news that Jerry Yang is leaving Yahoo! was that this was the passing of an era. I first met Jerry in 1994 when he was still a PhD student at Stanford, before he and David Filo left to run Yahoo! full time. Through bubbles and two economic downturns, Jerry has always been omnipresent in Silicon Valley. But all good things come to pass. With the arrival of Scott Thompson as the new CEO of Yahoo!, it makes sense that Scott be given a clean slate upon which to write the … [Read more...]

While we often publish our insights on how companies should leverage disruptive technologies, I wanted to share a peek inside of our company. Our journey has seen a lot of growth, here are some stats: We’ve grown from … [Read more...]

Occupy Wall Street: Disruption & Leaderless Leadership

Part of what's fascinating about working at the Altimeter Group are the back channel conversations we have internally about the meaning and impact of disruptive events (not just technologies). A burning topic of late has been the Occupy Wall Street movement and its many Occupy offshoots throughout the country. Last weekend, in the spirit of inquiry and research, we ventured to the demonstrations in our respective cities. We're interested in issues of leadership, and in how institutions such … [Read more...]

Review copies of “Open Leadership” available

by Charlene Li The hardcover version of “Open Leadership” is due to be in stores the end of May but I have 400 galleys of the book available for bloggers and Twitter-ers to review as long as you meet some basic criteria (see below) The galleys are preliminary, bound manuscripts and as such, contain some typos and errors (which we hopefully all found and corrected). While not perfect, the content is basically the same as the final product so acts as a good basis for a review. I’ll be happy to … [Read more...]
