About Altimeter’s Crew
Altimeter Group is made up of key team members, who work closely with Partners. These team members provide consulting, research, business development, sales, events planning and administrative support. The following people currently make up the Altimeter Crew, helping support Altimeter Group’s growth and success:
Susan Etlinger, Consultant
Susan Etlinger is a Consultant with Altimeter Group where she works with Charlene Li in the Leadership and Management practice, focused on helping organizations adapt and thrive in a changing technology landscape. For the past twenty years, she has worked at the intersection of people, processes and technology, in organizations such as Charles Schwab & Co., Inc., and in the agency world, most recently at Horn Group.
Susan focuses on helping clients develop strategic, actionable plans that support their unique objectives and organizations through periods of rapid change. Her experience across the enterprise in information technology, marketing, customer service and retail enables her to assimilate the needs of multiple constituencies and apply them pragmatically to real-world business requirements.
Susan has a deep grounding in interactive marketing and social technologies. As a Senior Vice President at Horn Group, Susan pioneered the agency’s social strategy offering, advising start-ups to Fortune 500 companies on social media best practices and strategic plan development. She has launched dozens of companies and products, and counseled businesses through crises, liquidity events and large-scale organizational initiatives.
An accessible, engaging speaker, Susan has authored and regularly conducts hands-on education sessions for organizations seeking to understand and integrate social technologies into their business plans. Susan is regularly interviewed and asked to speak on social strategy and best practices for business, and has been quoted in outlets including Businessweek, ZDNet,The Orange County Register and eContent Magazine.
Susan’s personal blog, The Family Room, has been profiled in several national publications. She is a published translator and has a B.A in Rhetoric from the University of California at Berkeley.

Christine Tran, Researcher
Christine Tran works closely with partner Jeremiah Owyang in the Customer Strategy practice. She conducts research and analysis on customer strategies, focusing on emerging technologies which currently include social marketing, social CRM, mobile, and location-based services.
Christine recently returned to the Bay Area from Vietnam, where she spent a year and a half as a Project Manager serving U.S. e-commerce companies. While in Vietnam, she also completed her MBA through the University of Hawaii’s offsite program based in Ho Chi Minh City. Christine wrote her thesis on online customer engagement in Vietnam, researching US models and interviewing Vietnam’s early adopters, entrepreneurs, VCs, and brand managers. Previously, she was the Program Director for Vietnam and Myanmar at San Francisco-based nonprofit Volunteers in Asia.
Christine lives in the Sunset District of San Francisco, where she’s come to accept fog as a reasonable trade-off for beach and park access. She actively seeks out the best bowl of pho in the Bay Area (currently Ao Sen in Oakland). Christine blogs at http://christineptran.com.

Andrew Jones, Researcher
Andrew has worked for various technology companies, beginning with a web-hosting startup in 1997, and later including Yahoo! and iCrossing. He has also served as a Peace Corps volunteer. He is fascinated by the implications of new technology for business and marketing as well as governance and third-world development. He remains interested in social responsibility and recently joined READ Global as a part-time digital marketing advisor.
Andrew loves to travel, speaks fluent German and Spanish, and is something of a hazelnut addict. He is a tinkerer by nature and enjoys puzzles. He’s also played competitive soccer, chess, and ping-pong.

David Stanley, Vice President of Business Development and Sales
David Stanley is responsible for driving Altimeter Group’s growth and profitability. With more than 15 years of experience, David demonstrates sustained success at all levels of sales, marketing and business development. David is responsible for expanding Altimeter Group’s market share through direct sales engagements globally, as well as overall business development.
Previously, David was Vice President of Sales at ARInsights; makers of the industry leading SaaS-based “Program Management Software” for industry analyst relations. David grew ARInsights from a start-up company in 2005 to the undisputed leader in its space.
Past roles include National Sales Director for MX Logic (now McAfee), the leading provider of web based Enterprise Email Defense Solutions, with responsibilities for sales and business development for the government, enterprise and education markets in both domestic and international. Prior to MX Logic, David was Director of Business Development (Managed Services) for Synergy International (now Fronde), a New Zealand based IT consultancy and services provision Company.
David began his professional career in the US Army where he proudly served 6 years as an Aviation Engineer for the US Army Apache and Cobra Gun-ships (helicopters).
David is the proud father of a daughter and husband of Ruth (15 Years!). He manages a full house with 3 Labrador retrievers, 3 cats and his wife’s parents. David loves time with his family, who are fortunately almost entirely local. His passions include Crossfit, rock climbing, skiing, mountain biking, and most other sports with an element of risk—he even enjoyed a stint riding bulls. Another major passion is BeerTapTV of which he is co-founder and partner.

Colleen Todd, Sales Director
Colleen Todd, Sales Director, joins our sales team focused on helping clients leverage “research as a service” to navigate strategic process & disruptive technology decisions. With more than 12 years of strategic selling experience into the Technology Research & Advisory Services market, Colleen demonstrates driving new business, executive relationship development, with a focus on Healthcare, Consumer Goods, and Retail industries. Additional responsibilities include expanding current client relationships and driving new product launches.
Past roles include Sales Director for IDC’s Industry Insights cross-industry businesses with responsibilities for sales and business development into the Manufacturing, Healthcare, Financial Services, and Energy markets. Prior to Industry Insights, Colleen held roles as Strategic Account Executive, Account Manager, and Team Mentor for AMR Research (now Gartner), the traditional global IT market research and Services Company. Here she successfully brought AMR advisory services into new regional geographies, new industry specialties, and new software & technology markets, achieving President’s Club in 1999 – 2004. Recognized for unparalleled client renewal rates, she initiated the concept of the “client engagement model” to AMR’s sales & service organization.
Colleen began her professional career in the Pharmaceutical industry at Boehringer Ingelheim, where she successfully represented products across Cardiology, Respiratory, Urology, and Oncology specialties. In addition to her Field Sales activities, she was nationally recognized as the youngest (tenure) rep to achieve the elite Certified Field Trainer position. In this role, she led the Regional Training Program for new hires in products, sales process, and territory development. Colleen also delivered new product launches to the field for the Combivent and Flomax brands. Awards received at Boehringer Ingelheim include President Club and the Golden Ingot Service Award for development of a new business strategy in her territory, which proved scalable & was then rolled out as a national field sales program strategy. Prior to that, she graduated Magna Cum Laude B.S in Nutritional Sciences, at Rivier College.
Colleen has been an “east coast gal” exploring the Cali coast this past year, yet will be returning to her house on the south shore of Boston. As the eldest of four siblings and the “favorite” aunt of 9 nieces and nephews, distance has reminded her that home is where the heart is & family is the most important thing. She will continue to pursue her passion of travel adventures and challenging herself to explore uncharted territory, whether that is persons, places, or things. In the meantime, kettle-bell training, golf, and oil-painting are her current leisure pursuits

Linda Ziffrin, Principal at Valley View Ventures
Linda Ziffrin brings over 25 years of successfully selling leading edge technology, from one of the very first videotext service for news (NewsNet; see also Videotext/Online Services); to the very early days of client/server with PeopleSoft (1993-2000) to one of the first SaaS, net native applications, Employease (2000-2007). With a background in selling and managing sales teams, Linda understands the human side of technology.
Linda graduated from Cornell University with a B.S. in Industrial and Labor Relations.Linda works with her partner and husband, Fred Abbott, who founded V3 in 2002. They have two children. Linda enjoys cooking (but not cleaning up), reading about history, music in every shape and form (which is a good thing since one of her children plays in 3 different bands), and walking in Walden Woods.

Julie Viola, Executive Assistant
Julie Viola supports Jeremiah Owyang as his Executive Assistant. She coordinates Jeremiah’s active schedule and provides administrative support for his growing client projects.
As a recent transplant from New Jersey, Julie lives in San Jose wth her husband and their two children. After four corporate moves with her husband’s job in the motorcycle industry, she is settled into an active life in Silicon Valley. Julie enjoys the outdoors spending most of her free time on the golf course with her family and golfing buddies and hiking in the Santa Cruz Mountains with her dog, Lucy. After her family and golf, her other passion is cooking. She and her husband Jim are currently perfecting their homemade pasta and pizza. While Julie and her family love the offerings of the west coast they have yet to find a decent slice of pizza outside of their kitchen.

Denise Aday, Virtual Executive & Marketing Assistant
With Altimeter Group since the beginning, Denise Aday – with the help of her virtual assistant team at Aday VA Solutions – provides a variety of vital support services that keep things running smoothly. Depending on the team’s needs at any given time, these include back-office support and management, marketing and sales assistance, customer service, as well as speaker and author support. We and our clients LOVE working with her!
Denise personally brings 20+ years’ experience in office management, administrative assistance, bookkeeping, marketing support, and customer service. From military spouse with eight household moves under her belt, to corporate cubicle, small business, the non-profit sector and finally owner of her own small business since 2006, she knows what it takes to jump in and get things done.
Denise lives in Dallas, TX with her archivist husband, Mike. Together they’ve raised two awesome kids and are the proud grandparents of one (and counting). Denise is a perfectly happy homebody that enjoys technology (especially social), reading, hiking, occasional road trips, exploring the city, movies, music and good conversation.
